April: Spring and rhododendron bloom. Conditions in the Himalaya change from valley to valley and year to year, so treat this page as a planning guide, not a forecast. Check current conditions with your operator or the local forest or tourism office before you commit.
Weather and temperature
Pleasant days at mid-altitudes, and cold nights higher up. Sources place the peak rhododendron bloom in April, in Sikkim (Goechala, around 9,000 to 11,000 ft) and on the Singalila ridge, and from late March to mid-April around Chopta in Uttarakhand.
Snow conditions
Sikkim still has snow on the upper trail in April, according to one operator guide. In Ladakh, snowmelt begins at higher elevations.
Road access and transport disruptions
Spring roads generally improve, though landslides are possible after rain or snow melt.
Daylight
Daylight is long enough for relaxed trekking days.
Crowds
April is a popular bloom month, so booking ahead is sensible. We have not verified crowd numbers.
Difficulty considerations
Trails can be a mix of snow and mud. Treks that stay below the snowline are easier.
Beginner suitability
Bloom treks at moderate altitudes are a common choice for first-timers, with a reputable operator.
